Killion vs WealthTrace: two Monte Carlo planners that link accounts

WealthTrace is the closest positional competitor we have seen: dedicated retirement planning software, linked investment accounts, Monte Carlo, what-if scenarios. The honest split is tax depth versus engine transparency.

At a glance

Killion 1,000-path Monte Carlo projection with a probability of success
Killion's 1,000-path projection — the same engine the public demo runs. Account linking is the other half of the argument: read-only brokerage sync means the plan updates when the holdings do, which is the capability review-site roundups call "retirement planning software with account linking."

Why this comparison exists

Most “retirement planning software” comparisons pit Killion against ProjectionLab or Boldin. WealthTrace is the closer positional match: it links accounts, it updates holdings, and it runs Monte Carlo on the resulting plan. The public prices page (Standard $229 / Deluxe $289 / Advisor $1,049 per year, checked 15 August 2026) is the source for every figure in the table.

Account linking, said plainly

Both products treat linked holdings as an input to the simulation, not a novelty. Killion’s connections are read-only through SnapTrade; cash is currently entered by hand. WealthTrace publishes account import and linking, including Yodlee on the advisor tier. Neither fact is a reason to build a standalone “account linking” landing page — that SERP is vendor-hostile. It is a reason to put the argument here.

Which one to choose

Choose Killion if

  • You want the engine specified — regimes, seed, 1,000 paths — not only a success percentage.
  • You want a public withdrawal-rule laboratory (VPW, CAPE, Guyton-Klinger) in addition to the paid plan.
  • You want a lower annual price and a live no-signup demo before you pay.

Choose WealthTrace if

  • You need Roth conversion and tax sequencing inside the planner. Killion does not model taxes.
  • You want a dedicated what-if / Monte Carlo planner that has been in this category longer.
  • You are an advisor looking for a client-facing tier at the published advisor price.
