Net worth calculator

Free, no signup. A net worth calculator by age: add up what you own and what you owe to get your net worth, then see where it ranks for your age and among all US households, from the Federal Reserve’s 2025 survey.

Short answer: Net worth is what you own minus what you owe. The median US household had $216,100 in the Fed’s 2025 survey, and $156,000 for ages 35 to 44.

The calculator

Your net worth$327,000$605,000 owned minus $278,000 owed
Among households 35 to 4469th percentileMedian for this age: $156,000
Among all US households59th percentileMedian for all: $216,100
Top 10% for your age starts at$1,233,600Top 25%: $467,500

A net worth of $327,000 is higher than about 69% of households whose head is 35 to 44, and about 59% of all US households, in the Federal Reserve’s 2025 survey.

Your net worth percentile for your age

Your percentile is the share of households with less net worth than yours, using the age of the head of the household. Half of households headed by someone 35 to 44 have less than $156,000; a quarter have more than $467,500, and one in ten more than $1,233,600. The average is much higher than the median because a small number of very wealthy households pull it up.

What counts in net worth

  • Counts as an asset: cash, savings, brokerage and retirement accounts at their full balance, the market value of your home and other property, vehicles, and a business you own.
  • Counts as a debt: the mortgage, home equity loans, student loans, car loans, credit card balances and any other money you owe.
  • Does not count: your income, future Social Security or a pension you have not started, and things you rent rather than own.

Retirement accounts count before tax. A $100,000 traditional 401(k) is worth less than that once withdrawals are taxed, so some people also track a figure after an estimated tax.

What moves net worth

Net worth rises when you save more than you spend, when your investments and home grow, and when you pay down debt. High-interest debt such as credit cards works against it most directly: every dollar of it subtracts a dollar and keeps costing interest. Over long periods, the share of income saved and invested does most of the work; the savings rate calculator shows how long that takes to reach a target.

Methodology and sources

Net worth is the total of the assets you enter minus the debts. The ranking uses the Federal Reserve’s 2025 Survey of Consumer Finances, released October 9, 2026: we computed the 1st to 99th percentiles of household net worth for each age group from the public data, weighted to represent all US households, and place your figure between them. The survey measures households, so enter your household’s combined assets and debts.

Frequently asked questions

What is net worth?
Everything a household owns minus everything it owes. Assets include cash, investments, retirement accounts, your home and vehicles; debts include the mortgage, student loans, car loans and credit cards. Income and future Social Security are not part of it.
How do I calculate my net worth?
Add up the current value of your assets, then subtract the balances of all your debts. A household with $600,000 of assets, including a $400,000 home, and $280,000 of debts, including a $250,000 mortgage, has a net worth of $320,000.
What is a good net worth for my age?
The Federal Reserve’s 2025 survey puts the median household net worth at $32,800 under 35, $156,000 at 35 to 44, $254,700 at 45 to 54, $411,300 at 55 to 64, $431,900 at 65 to 74 and $504,600 at 75 and over. The calculator shows your percentile for your age.
What percentile is my net worth?
Enter your age and your household’s assets and debts. The calculator places your net worth among households of the same age group, and among all US households, using percentiles computed from the Fed’s 2025 Survey of Consumer Finances.
Should I include my home in my net worth?
Yes, at its current market value, with the mortgage counted as a debt. Some people also track net worth without the home, because home equity is hard to spend without selling or borrowing.
Does net worth include retirement accounts?
Yes, at their full balance. Traditional 401(k) and IRA money will be taxed when withdrawn, so its after-tax value is lower than the balance shown.
