Killion vs Quicken Simplifi: simulation versus everyday money

Quicken Simplifi is the everyday-money app the review roundups keep naming. Killion is a retirement simulator. They overlap on linked accounts and a future-looking view; they do not overlap on what “planning” means.

At a glance

Killion 1,000-path Monte Carlo projection with a probability of success
Killion's 1,000-path projection — the same engine the public demo runs. Account linking is the other half of the argument: read-only brokerage sync means the plan updates when the holdings do, which is the capability review-site roundups call "retirement planning software with account linking."

Different jobs

The official Quicken pricing page (checked 15 August 2026) lists Simplifi as the web and mobile product for budgeting, saving and investments, with projected cash flows as the forward-looking feature. Lifetime Planner is listed on Classic. Killion does not try to be a better budget app. It tries to be a better simulation of a decades-long plan.

Account linking

Simplifi’s linking is broad — banks, cards, investments, retirement accounts, crypto, property values. Killion’s linking is narrow and read-only, aimed at feeding a projection. Roundups that name Simplifi “best overall” are usually scoring the everyday-money job. Folding the linking argument into this page is the honest place for it.

Which one to choose

Choose Killion if

  • The live question is a retirement horizon, a withdrawal rule and a probability of success.
  • You want a stated simulation engine you can cite, not a cash-flow projection.
  • You want to try the engine with no signup on the public demo.

Choose Quicken Simplifi if

  • You want to know what you have left to spend this month, not in year 32.
  • You want bills, subscriptions, refund tracking and a 12-month budget in a mobile app.
  • You already live in the Quicken world and want the official web/mobile product at the published annual price.
